Dental Camp at CocoBeach

On September 19th 2015 the OWOS Team organized a dental camp in Dar es Salaam at CocoBeach. It was the first time for the team to organize a dental camp in Dar es Salaam city.
During the camp OWOS was joined by the Tanzania Diabetes Association (TDA) and the Tanzania Youth Alliance (TAYOA), which provided testing and counselling for diabetes and HIV/AIDs respectively. During the camp treatments for different dental issues, diabetes, and HIV/AIDs testing and counselling were available to members of the public.
The camp focused on providing services to three streets of Msasani ward namely: Bonde la Mpunga, Makangira and Mikoroshini. Individuals from these streets were picked from their street by a bus, which was organized by the OWOS team, and brought to Coco Beach to attend the camp.
Simultaneously to the treatment area, we ran a social booth, where information about the foundation (OWOS) was provided, and Spanish food was served. To enter the social booth individuals were required to pay 20,000Tsh; a bracelet and a glass of sangria was offered at the entrance. Each entrance fee (20,000Tsh) was utilized to treat a single patient in the treatment tent.
Throughout the course of the camp 143 individuals were seen. Out of these 92 received dental treatment and check-ups, 3 patients out of the 92 were referred for further treatment at Bd Clinic, 94 underwent for HIV/AIDs testing and counselling, and 128 received diabetes testing and counselling.
