Sunday’s Story

Sunday is a 22 year-old Tanzanian man who had a large tumor in his jaw that caused facial deformity and pain. In August 2014 Sunday was diagnosed with an ameloblastoma, a tumor on his jaw, at BD Clinic of Advanced Dentistry in Dar es Salaam. The tumor was life-threatening as it would continue growing over time and, if left untreated, would cause a major artery to burst. Following his diagnosis OWOS coordinated a fundraising campaign to take Sunday to Spain to have the tumor removed. On November 7th a surgical team at San Francisco de Asís Hospital in Madrid, Spain removed the tumor and rebuilt Sunday’s lower jaw with bone from his fibula.

The 11 hour surgery was a success and Sunday was flown back to Tanzania in early December 2014 where he continues to live a normal life. OWOS would like to extend its deepest gratitude to those who donated and helped make Sunday’s surgery possible.

Sunday 2 days before his surgery, went to the Real Madrid Stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu and enjoyed very much the visit! He got a t-shirt from the club’s official store, saw the trophy cabinet as well as the player’s tunnel and dressing rooms.
